In the 12th National Assembly elections, the two pro-Roshan parliamentarians of the Jatiya Party did not get the nomination this time. In Rangpur-3 (Sadar) seat, Roshan Ershad’s son Rahgir Al Mahi Ershad alias Saad Ershad will be contested by party chairman GM Quader himself. On the other hand, party’s expelled leader and Member of Parliament Mosiur Rahman alias Ranga did not get nomination. Hossain Maqbul Shahriar, nephew of GM Quader, has been nominated for his seat.

Party leaders and activists said that after the late Chairman of Jatiya Party (JPA) HM Ershad passed away, his and Roshan Ershad’s son Rahgir Al Mahi Ershad was elected Member of Parliament in the by-election from Rangpur-3 (Sadar) constituency. Party Chairman GM Quader is currently the Member of Parliament from Lalmonirhat-3 (Sadar) Constituency but he will not contest from that constituency this time. This time he will be elected from Rangpur-3 (Sadar) constituency.

Mosiur Rahman was elected as the grand alliance candidate in 2014 and 2018 elections from Rangpur-1 (Gangachra) seat. There was a lot of discussion in the area about which party he will contest the election for. He was a follower of Japa’s chief adviser Roshan Ershad. Hossain Maqbul Shahriar, nephew of party chairman GM Quader and former member of parliament of this constituency, has been nominated for this seat.

After receiving the nomination Maqbul Shahriar said, ‘I was the MP of this seat before. I have done a lot of work for the area. I will try my best to win as the party has again nominated this seat.

In this regard, Mosiur said, he will be elected as an independent candidate. However, although Rahgir was called several times, he did not pick up the phone.

Jatiya Party’s central advisor and former member of parliament Anishul Islam Mondal has been nominated for Rangpur-2 (Badarganj-Taraganj) constituency. Rangpur-4 (Peergacha-Kaunia) seat has been nominated by Central Japa Joint Organizing Secretary Mustafa Salim. After getting the party nomination, he said, this Rangpur region is the stronghold of Jatiya Party. Expecting a fair election. If the election is fair, he will be elected.

Jatiya Party Co-Chairman and Rangpur City Mayor Mustafizur Rahman’s younger brother Anishur Rahman, member of District Zapa, has been nominated for Rangpur-5 (Mithapukur) seat. After receiving the nomination, he said, “National Party area will wake up again.” I will try my best to win. Along with that, efforts will be made to strengthen the party. Central member Noore Alam has been nominated in Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) seat.

About the nomination, Joint Secretary General of Jatiya Party’s Central Committee and President of Rangpur Metropolitan Committee SM Yasir said, “Through this election, we want to show that Jatiya Party is still the base of Rangpur.”
