Magura District Awami League announced to stay united in the field for Shakib

District Awami League has announced to stand unitedly in favor of Awami League’s nominated candidate Shakib Al Hasan in Magura-1 constituency. The leaders made this announcement after the extended meeting of the district Awami League at the Jamrul floor party office on Tuesday afternoon. Earlier on Monday, Saifuzzaman Shikhar, the current Member of Parliament of this constituency, announced that he would stand by Shakib.

Shakib, the captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team, is contesting the national parliament elections for the first time. Talking to the party leaders, the district Awami League convened an extended meeting to decide what to do after the confirmation of the candidates in the two constituencies of Magura. President AFM Abdul Fattah presided over and General Secretary Pankaj Kumar Kundur moderated the extended meeting, along with top leaders of district Awami League and organizations, Central Awami League member Nirmal Kumar Chatterjee and Shakib’s father Khandkar Mashroor Reza were present.

The top leaders of the district Awami League said that they hoped that the current MP Saifuzzaman Shikhar would get nominated again in the upcoming elections. However, the nomination of Shakib Al Hasan at the last moment created disappointment among the leaders. However, yesterday Saifuzzaman requested the top leaders of Shikhar district Awami League to unanimously vote for Shakib.

After the meeting, District Awami League President AFM Abdul Fattah said, “Saifuzzaman Shikhar has organized the politics of Awami League in Magura district for a long time. As he was not nominated, there was contempt and anger among some leaders and activists. But since the party president has nominated Shakib, we will all work unitedly to protect the honor of the leader.

Shakib’s father Khandaker Mashroor Reza said that Shakib will come to Magura on Wednesday morning. After arriving, first go to the district Awami League office. From there, he will go to Magura Municipal Cemetery to visit the graves of relatives and party leaders. Shakib will go home from there. Then the election process will start step by step.
